Getting creative part 1

We start this project on 2009.

I have post two of my early projects which I have shown and now I will show the third project given.The third project is to make an exhibition center base on Brunei's local stuff. We were given a measurement of 9m x 12m, for indoor stadium. The first thing we were ask was to do the Mood Board. I wanted to find a concept that connects with Brunei, which Brunei are famous for traditional culture. Then I decided to choose two classic musical instrument which is an acoustic guitar and a violin. Both were string instrument. I remember during High school, we have a 'Gulingtangan' competition where they perform traditional music with a violin. The music fits with it.Adding a guitar that mix well into it.That is how I got inspired for the concept.

This image above is my Mood Board. The blue color background resembles calmness ant the smokey purple resembles harshness. As some songs played using this two instrument can express different symphony but blend well together. The black notes is to show the bonding of traditional and modern songs.

With this Mood Board, I start to do my research and development and get some ideas on each part of the two string instrument.

This are some of the research I have done for the exhibition project. We have to write it manually and I still have to practice that. The definition, the idea, the requirement and facilities for the customer.

Image 1 is my Design and development for exhibition. Once again, I didn't focus on the cover but I tried putting musical notes to identify my concept. In image2 is my Brainstorm. Before I start doing the development, I have to list out what is needed like the colors, the wall texture,Lighting,flooring,safety and other important requirements. In Image 3 is how I start my development by focusing on my concepts shape and how I am going to deivide each section to locate what area I am going to put in.Also in Image 4.Mixing the two string instrument and cut them half.

Top view.The guitar and the violin are slice into half.The decorative round shape in the middle is the decorative colored glass.To give colors in the building by the lights. The right side is the exhibition area and the left side is an open space for food court.In the middle of the building are some displays of all the musical instrument use in Brunei.

A step forward to my goal

I started my college in the month of July.Where as usual we were given orientation and the introduction of the college.After a few weeks we were there, we were given a brief for our first project.We were given several themes to choose.To create an interior for the given space.Around 4m x 6m.The choices were Calm,Sensual, Aggressive, Superiority,Confusion and Comfort. I chose Sensual which base on my personality.The first thing we were ask to do was a Mood Board. We didn't really understand what is Mood Board from the beginning but lucky our senior show us some example and advice of making one.Mood Board is about expressing our mood on the themes that we chose.I did mine but unfortunately I can't display all my first project since it's still with my teacher.I didn't take any pictures of it because I didn't know it was important to.It was the first mistake for me to be careless.

After the Mood Board,we were ask to do a research on all the themes and our development on how we are going to create the interior.

 I didn't know how to design a cover for my development.I didn't really focus on that, so I just write it simple.

This is how I visualize the sensual interior for my project. I also got Distinction for this.I use sensual colors with some decorative glasses to show the classic beauty.with a lot of pillows to give the softness to the room.

For our second project, we did a project on Domestic Kitchen. We were given the measurement of the spaces and ask to show the ergonomics for the people.But this time we were not ask to do any Mood Board.Only research and development.

This is how the plan looks like. Its around 5m x 5m only. With the measurements and some detail.Below are the visuals for the kitchen.

Near the door, I put a serving area with a glass window incase when the cook is cooking, the smoke or smell wouldnt go through.For safety, I put a fire extinguisher in case of  emergency. A custom made Oven and Microwave locate on the wall for faster serving.

This is where the cooking area.Next to it is the sink.In the middle is a custom made bar table with four stool.Also with a small sink specialized only to wash hands. With Down lights reflecting through the glasses to make the area more brighter.

This are the two projects I have done which still needed to be fix. It was still an early stage which I have to learn more on how to do it,to achieve better work.

This two project are done and so does the year 2008.Will continue to show more work of 2009 projects.

Tough Luck to be success

After the 'O' Level result was out, I was dissapointed that I only score 3 'o's for November. How dissapointed my parents were. But my dad gave me hope. He said to me,'Doesn't mean once you fail,you can't rise up again'. So by that, I repeat another year in eleventh grade. I took June 'O' Level exam and still didn't score anything. But I kept in mind of his phrase and fight again to score it on November.I got 1'o's making overal 4'o's. But that wasn't enough.My parents were alright with it but my result wasn't enough to go to college. I tried applying to Maktab Duli, where they say it was a better college. But they didn't accept me. My dad wanted to help me and he call another college which is Maktab Teknik Sultan Saiful Rijal and ask if theres a courses that fits with my qualification. Sadly,they say there wasn't but there is for Pre-National Diploma for Radio electronics. My dad didn't want it.He didn't want me to waste one year to get to National Diploma. I felt truely dissapointed to myself that I crush my family's dream to see me success. But that didn't stop me for trying again.

In 2008, my dad wants me to apply night class and take 'A' Level classes. I know that would be a troublesome since I have no experience in learning A Level subjects. But for my family I'll try to do my best. In the same year, I also have private exam for 'O' Level. Atleast 1 'o's  to score into 5 'o's which is qualified to go to any college.It takes me nearly 3 years to get it. I also applied again for Maktab Teknik Sultan Saiful Rijal(MTSSR). But on Interior Design course.It was a very rushing year.

I took 'A' Level classes just for five months and had my exam on November. Again, I fail. As I would have guess. But lucky I took 'O' Level exam on June that time and unexpectedly I got 5'o's already.I felt relief with the result and I was thankful to my parents for always supporting me.

On May, I got a call from MTSSR and told me I had an interview for the Interior Design Course. I was surprize that I could still have a chance to be in a college. During the interview day,I brought some of my old highschool art portfolio to show what I am capable of. The first thing we were ask to ddo before the interview was to draw a still life prepared on the table. After that they call each of us to go to their office for individual interview. They ask what was I doing before I apply, Do I have problems with transport and If I have any problem with timing for submitting my work on time.After I answered all their question,they ask to see my portfolio.First, I showed some of my Still Life drawing which I have done at Highschool.

The above image are some of  my Still Life drawing that I did for my art exam before.I apologize for unclearing view.My camera has low megapixel. But just to show what I prepared for my interview.

This are also what I showed them. I love to draw potraits sinceI was in Highschool.But I drew this three months before my interview. I include this to show I can draw faces and even adding shadows.They did show some interest until I show this one unimmaginable drawing I did after I left Highschool.

This drawing was inspired by a Classic Romance novel I first read.The deeper I read it gets me inspired more. One of the interviewer likes this drawing and wish to take it and show it to the Ministry of Education but the other interviewer said no need of it. After a month,they call me and told me the most exciting news that I got accepted to the college. For all the hard journey to get to a college, I finally succed and relief my parents heart.

Basic work to inspiration

In 2005,as I was located in ART stream class,My teacher was Mrs Buntar who had inspired me with matching colors.Today she wore blue,even her accessories like shoes,watch,handbags and the next day she wore green with green accessories.It was her signature style to identify herself.

We were thought basic of art by doing sketches using different types of pencils which I was always curious whats the use of different number on the pencil. We draw like Jugs,vase,sport shoes, glasses and etc. just by using pencil and learn how to do the shadow effect. This was also to practice our skill to draw 'Still Life'. Some object were prepared in front of us and we drew it.So on with this basic work, we were thought to use colors. Afterwards,we were given a task to make poster just by drawing for example a NO SMOKING poster,Road safety and beverage commercial.

Since I went in to ART class, I was always the top student there.In every task was given I always got NO.1. My drawings were always stick on the wall as my teacher said to let other student inspired with my work. Since then, I wanted to challenge myself more after I went to eleventh grade.I start to draw human figure or the human movement. I sometimes borrowed my teachers book on how to draw figures.At that time, Mrs Buntar was replace by Sir Awangku Haji whose also an art teacher. He also use my drawing to give ideas to some of his students in different classes. Once again, I was the top student in his class. But sadly during my 'O' Level exam I only got grade C(credit). But at least I pass.

My life for ART

I start to draw since I was 6 years old.I draw animals such as Butterfly, Horses, Cats and more.Where some story books inspired me. But when I grew a few years older, some buildings attract my attention by their structure and their interior.For some example,the Museums,the mosques and sometimes by the way they arrange the garden.Since than my ambition was to be an architect and do my own creative area.

I took art class since I was in primary school and stop until I went to High school where my parents chose Commerce for my subject.But that was only until the Ninth grade where we can change our subjects for the Fifth grade.I wanted to apply Principal Of Account but the teachers say my qualifications was not enough to get that subject. So instead they put me in ART class. It was fine with my parents since they know I love drawing. Maybe it was my chance to achieve my goal. I am very thankful for it.
